Live your best life

To live content with small means; to seek elegance rather than luxury, and
refinement rather fashion; to be worthy, not respectable; and wealthy, not rich;
to study hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly...to listen to stars and
buds, to babes and sages, with open heart; await occasions, hurry never...this
is my symphony-William Henry Channing

THE "TREE"

This sad looking "thing" (I call it a tree as it's about 8 feet tall) has been "sitting" in a pot in a corner of our lounge looking sad for itself for the pass months. So I thought I will give it a bit of tender loving care i.e. a trim here and a tidy up there in order to revive it a bit.

It took me a few hours and I was glad that it was beginning to look quite good. So I continued to untie all the stems away from the pole to see which ones needed to be trimmed down, i.e. the bare and dried up stems etc., to make it look a bit more lush and green. Well that was the idea, anyway.

Unfortunately it was a lot more unhealthy than I first thought !!! The more I untied the more less leaves it had on!! In the end all that was left was a bare pole!!! Basically it was a massacre!! A tree no more!!

Well, then I thought "Now what ??"

Out hunting we went to the garden centres looking for another plant which hopefully will get to the same height given a few years time - that is of course, if I hadn't kill it by then !!

So this is it here - all lush and green. Its called a Yucca. Robert had one during his bachelor days and according to him it is very easy to grow - that we will see in the later months - wait till it has the "Waine" therapy ! LOL! We got this at a bargain - that is my theory anyway. It is about 4 feet tall and it had a £10 price label on it. We saw a few other (totally similar) ones with a different price - £24.99 (!!) Initially we thought there must be something wrong with the lower priced ones or else why were they more than half priced and it wasn't like there was a sale on at that moment. Well. we couldn't see anything different. My thinking is someone has been mistakenly priced them as while we were queueing up to pay I saw much smaller plants with a £10 price label on them !

HAPPY DAYS !!

What a mess !!

This was given to us by our very good friends before they emigrated to Singapore to work about 3-4 years ago. It has been unwell for a few months and nothing I do seems to please it anymore. So today I decided to take a few hours off my project to try to give it a face lift.

Who knows - we may end up with nothing !!!

Told myself that I am not going to shop but gone into Primark and saw these !!

New Project!!!!

This is the new project I have started on. Its a (rough) sketch of a melon. When we were in France there were fields and fields of them out there. Sarah asked if I can paint one for her - her birthday present for herself. That reminds me I need to reply her e-mail as she doesn't know that I intend to do it. If she still wants me to paint it for her we will then decide on the size.

At least my fingers are less "itchy" since they have been kept busy.

I am very excited about this and willl keep you posted of course!

A year since ........

......I left the rat race.

Since I have so much time on my hands nowadays I have been doing a lot of soul searching (unintentionally of course!) I don't know why but at my age? My sentiment exactly! What I had as a job was not what I would call a career nor one that I would choose to be in either . It was what I had to do to pay the bills when you are the eldest in a family full of financial restraints. I was never asked about what my amibition was, let alone any advice was given as to which profession would benefit me for life. I had to take what was given. The first job that landed on my lap was as a receptionist in a legal firm. It was good to begin with and was learning something new every day but as time went on all that slowly trickled away. Though I am proud to say that I've worked up the ranks through those 25 years but it was hardly easy as I had to put up with a lot bullying and a lot of "kow towing" in fear of being dismissed for insubordination if I dared question anything.

Now as I am getting restless with the time on my hands I am thinking I need to focus on something new again. I need to look for something to do with my time but the question of what kind of work would I want to go into is still unanswered. THAT itself is a big question. People say if you enjoy what you do you wouldn’t describe it as work. Now I know what I enjoy doing but that ain’t gonna bring in moneyll So I am back to looking at what there are out there for me – which I am capable of doing and all I can see are clerical/admin stuff which spells out LOUD and CLEAR “NOT MY CUP OF TEA" . So here I am finding myself going round and round in circles !!! I don’t want to go back to their so called “rat race” . So what if you win you are still a rat at the end of day !! Is this what having a mid life crisis feels like I wonder ?

Useless information about me

Have you come across those "25 things about me" listing....
I think that it's a bit tacky, but it does have an interesting perspective of knowing a person.
And so, I decided to be tacky today!
but, I might not just do 25, my list will be loooooonng......
Not sure how long, but it will be for I AM AN INTERESTING PERSON........

voila.......

1. I love languages
My ultimate dreams would be to teach my kids a few languages, I love language not just for communication alone but also the living culture, wisdom behind it. From the experience of English and Chinese, it's 2 diffferent paradigm of wisdom with life, both fantastic and life enriching. I want to do Japanese & French as a start.

2. I do half make up without lipsticks
Most people I have seen, would be putting on lipstick as make up quicky. I am quite the opposite that brows and blusher is the basic of looking good. Off the record, I often ended up eating the lipstick half an hour after I put it on.

3. I like colourful things
I love colours, no particular one but all blends together. Don't you feel merrier when you see colours all blend-in like in the circus or carnival, vaudeville like is my favourite. I particularly like those.

4. I like to reminiscence
Remembering a certain past moments makes me cherish life, flash back at the moment is watching twilight zone curling up next to mum and bro.

5. I have poetic view for life
I believes everything happens for a reason, and whatever tragedy happens, I'll asssociate some beautiful philosophical meaning with it.

6. I'm forgetful person
I forget easily, that's why I keep a book where I list down what to do when I really wants to get things done.

7. I'm forgiving person
I always gives people benefit of doubt, never can hate a person. I'll be angry, but always interpret any incident with benefit of doubt for the other party.

8. I like oldies
Sometimes, I wonder whether I am 90's teenager, because it will always be the 80's and early 90's movies and songs that pops up in my mind. Movies would be Terminator, Gremlins, Mannequin, ET, Back To Future, Never Ending Stories, ; Series would be Macguyver, A Team, Knight Rider, Love Boat, Cheers, Dynasty, Growing Pains, Doogie Howser, Murphy Brown;Songs would be MC Hammer, New Kids On the Block, Debbie Gibson, Kylie Minougue (circa Locomotion), Stevie Wonder, Lionel Richie.None of the friend my age could relate to it. I wonder where they come from.....

9. I love Art
Any form of it, I like to discover the underlying emotion. It's magical, other than language, I think art is a kind of communication that goes beyond the barrier of anything. It's a connection from the creator to others. Other than the conventional music, movie, paintings, I like perfomance art, not restricted to stage performance, like flashmob.

10. I'm resilient to pain physically
I discover it when my friend pass me a scissors and it went into my flesh, I didn't really feel anything but just tiny sting. And, I recall I usually cry because I'm emotionally painful rather than physically hurt.

10. I believes in science but I'm not an atheist
I like science subject the most during primary school, I remembered I always asked the most question. And, I thought then one day science would explain about God. I'm just not any average kid.

12. I love trivia
You thought trivia is trivial, it is not quite 100% so. It is fun fact, a conversational material, sometimes it would change your perception.

13. I'm avid reader of wikipedia
As I loves trivia, this is the big pool of it, I like to read biography, history of an incident, industrial jargon. I read also to accumulate materials for stories I want to write later on in life.

14. I love life, and appreciate it very much
I think it is pretty random that the tiniest cell meets the biggest cell to produce life. It is precious to have these senses to experience life, I'm grateful from every breath I take to every thought I made.

15. I'm half deaf
If I don't pay FULL attention, I couldn't collect the exact words people say, I think I'm half deaf. So, I never could eavesdrop.

16. I have extremely short span of attention
I really have to pay FULL attention, really making an effort to be focus, and its tiring. I tried everytime, usually it last not more than 15 minutes before my mind flew to India.Especially when someone speaks English, it takes double the effort. I'm still working on this though.

17. I express myself better in Chinese
I could express myself gracefully in Chinese, and I'm able to impressed because I have the right tone and expression. Half of the time, people find me sound and look funny when I uses English for communication. I couldn't get the tone right which frustrated me very badly. I have been watching a lot of English series lately, then I got reminded of the Aussie tone, American tone and English tone. OK, I'll just stick to Malaysian tone, and still frustrated.

18. My best childhood friend is my brother
I wasn't allow to be outdoor most of the time as cases of child abduction happened a lot when I was a kid. So, before 10, my brother is my best friend because I switched school too often to keep a circle of friends at school. Anyway, I still thinks that he is cool till today, and, I still follow whatever he does like Jade follows Jane. Silly, I know....

19. I love kids and I think I could relate to their play mind
I think a part of me still a 9 year old, I'm able to do whatever I want now which I'm not able to when I was 9, so Jane and Jade made really good playmates, I'm re-living a happy time through introducing new games and tricks to them.

20. I'm re-living my childhood, teenage and 20's now
Not only re-living my childhood, I'm re-living my teenage years through collecting songs, reading trivia on wiki, coming up ideas for projects, I think I'm going to live my twenties in next 2 years.

Those on the list are santorini, cirque du soleil, painting self potrait, write a story.......

22. I love designing
I want to make accesories and home decoration item.

23. I love paper work

24. I love sewing
I want to do embroidery on my dress, on my pillow, on my bag, on my hat, on my table cloth......

25. I procrastinate very badly
But, I procrstinate very badly, I move in slow motion, and slime on couch on weekend. I, I, I'll......change, try....to change......

26. I love the idea of bubble bath
If only I could afford bathroom renovation.......

27. I want to learn to appreciate red wine
